I finally realized what the word ‘deadline’ means. If you don’t make it to the finish line, you’re dead. They say that if you can’t sleep it’s because you’re awake in someone else’s dream.

If that's true, then I wish people would stop dreaming about me

I wonder what things would be like if people didn’t need to sleep. On certain nights, eyes still open around 2am, I can almost hear my brain buzzing, overheating like a laptop with a clogged up fan.

Vicodin makes me irritable, Xanax, numb

So I wait for the non-prescription sleeping pills to kick in, but sometimes even they don’t work. After about an hour, I can feel the cool blue gels melting inside me, reaching my fingertips.

I’m walking, walking, I’m falling into a green haze. I’m trying to catch sleep but it keeps slipping away.
