"I think of the tabletop as a stage where drama takes place, and I hope to create a variety of evocative narratives by adjusting the different painted entities that populate the space. Some of the imagery used is from my home or my studio or my imagination, while some of it is copied from modernist painting that inspires me; I like the juxtaposition of the personal with the historical. The still-life-as-table-setting trope is used with the idea of implicating the viewer, in the sense that one actively takes their own place at the table while standing in front of the painting."
